May 2, 2021 – High Knob Trail 146 Hiking Summary

For the last hike of the Spring 2021 hiking season, we met at the “top” of High Knob. Fred Scott was our leader for the day, taking 15 other hikers out East and North. We left, and then returned, via the River to River Trail. Horse riders were out today also. We were on Trail 146 for a good amount of the hike. Trees were fully “greened & leafed” out, limiting the scenic views after lunch. After lunch, we found an old stone chimney, over 7 ft tall,  which most had never seen prior to today. Views at spots on Hurricane Bluff were quite nice, with all the various shades of green. Skies were bright blue, and temps were just right. We covered about 5 miles. Today, marked 2 “firsts”…a) no new hikers at all and b) we returned….with 1 less hiker than we started with….hehe..don’t worry, he (Bill Gilmour) ‘found’ what he was looking for…an old abandoned jeep, and a couple of outbuildings.

We are ‘done’ with officially sponsored & ‘led’ hikes for the Spring 2021 season, but, You Can keep hiking on your own.

Be watching for official notice of the Annual Meeting, scheduled for  Saturday June 5th, at the Vienna, IL. city park. As someone who has participated in a hike, you are welcome to come to the meeting. You Are asked..to bring your own food & beverages. We will be announcing all details soon.

In the meantime…until next time…”See Ya on the Trail”…and remember.. “Pack out…what you pack in”..
